Rowan Gatherer
Rowan Gatherer is a traditional English singer and multi-instrumentalist whose work bridges historical depth with contemporary sensitivity. Known as one of the founding members of London’s Goblin Band and for his solo performances alongside artists such as Shovel Dance Collective, Broadside Hacks, and Daisy Rickman, he has established himself as a powerful voice in the new wave of British folk music.
Gatherer primarily performs English folk songs—both unaccompanied and with the hurdy-gurdy—and his approach weaves together a passion for social history, radical politics, and early music. With a deep knowledge of tradition and a curiosity for experimentation, he revitalizes old songs and ballads as vivid, contemporary narratives.
His expression is both raw and refined – a voice that carries the past into the present, and an instrumentation that echoes a distant yet resonant world. Rowan Gatherer stands out as one of the most compelling new interpreters of English folk today, with a practice that is as political as it is poetic.
