Music Journalism in Denmark Today

SATURDAY 12.09.26 – 14:00

How do music journalists navigate in an era dominated by digital short-form content? With funding on the decline, is it possible to produce in-depth, critical cultural journalism in Denmark? Anna Ullmann, Alexander Julin and Carsten Holm will discuss the state of music journalism in Denmark today.

Anna Ullman is a researcher, writer, and critic specializing in cultural analysis and the intersections between aesthetics, politics, history, and popular culture. Her current PhD research project at the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies, University of Copenhagen, focuses on political aspects of the folk movement in 1970s Denmark. Anna has a professional background in journalism and cultural critique. She has also worked as a festival curator in experimental music and is the author of a book on the cultural history of Roskilde Festival.

Alexander Julin is Communication and Project Manager at Art Music Denmark, the Danish national organisation for contemporary music, classical and sound art. In his role, he’s responsible for different projects and residencies for artists working with sound art in particular, as well as the organisation’s overall communication.
He has previously worked with both music criticism as editor-in-chief for the Danish music media Passive/Aggressive as well as with  fundraising, PR, organizing festivals and running the previous music venue in Aarhus, TAPE.

Carsten Holm is a Radio-, TV- and podcast-host. He is still at DR, since he had his first heavy metal programme during the beginning of the 1990s.
Today he is  hosting the radioshow Toner at P6 covering the Danish music scene.
Last year he launched the app and universe På Plakaten – a complete schedule of concerts on an every day basis – covering all Danish venues.
The red line in his career in the Danish media world is talking about and presenting music of all kinds.
